RULES

Athlete Requirements:

All athletes on the USA Team Optional Event Wushu delegation must be US citizens capable of getting a US passport and born between January 1, 1989 and December 31, 1999. They must have taken at least one 3-credit course towards a degree or diploma within the last year before the Games and be able and willing to sign the USA Team Honor Code and Code of Conduct and the USA Team Authorizations, Waiver and Release Form.

CLARIFICATION: Current highschool seniors who will be in college at the time of the competition in August just need to prove they are enrolled in a university for Fall 2017. There is no need to have started or previously taken college classes in order to qualify if you are enrolled in a university at the time of the competition in August.

Sanda: Four (4) Sanda athletes with only 1 in each weight category (listed below) and with no more than 3 male fighters.

Men: 1. 52 kg; 2. 60 kg; 3. 70 kg; 4. 80 kg

Women: 1. 52 kg; 2. 60 kg

Taolu: Four (4) Taolu athletes. It has been agreed that the US team will have 2 male and 2 female Taolu athletes. Only one athlete from USA Team will be allowed in each of the following eight events:

Men: Changquan (Long Fist), Combined Daoshu & Gunshu (Broadsword & Staff), Combined Nanquan & Nangun (Southern Fist & Southern Staff), Combined Taijiquan & Taijijian (Taichi and Taichi Sword)

Women: Changquan (Long Fist), Combined Jianshu & Oiangshu (Straightsword & Spear), Combined Nanquan & Nandao (Southern Fist and Southern Broad Sword), Combined Taijiquan & Taijijian (Taichi and Taichi Sword)

Note: BTIE and other parties have petitioned FISU to add more spots for the wushu event. That petition is still being processed. In the event that more spots are added for either the Taolu or Sanda events, it is agreed that the same methodology will be used to elect those new spots as well.

Financial Conditions

All athletes, coaches, officials and accompanying observers are responsible for all of their own expenses.

All non-airfare costs for USA Team will be transferred to FISU from BTIE, BTIE will arrange room, board and non-competition uniforms (for the Opening and Closing ceremonies) for the entire delegation. All payments except air travel will be paid to BTIE via UCMAP's fiduciary agent, National Chinese Wushu Association of America (NCWAA) who in turn will collect the funds from the participants.

The USAWKF bears no financial responsibility for any of the events covered in this memorandum. The financial responsibility and the logistical execution of the entire selection process lies solely with NCWAA serving as fiduciary agent for UCMAP.

Rules, Officials & Regulations

The team selection process for both the Taolu and Sanda teams will follow IWUF regulations and will be monitored by USAWKF officials to that end.

The judges, officials and sponsors of the Team Trials and all activities related to selecting the US wushu delegation for SU2017 shall be selected and paid for by UCMAP & NCWAA.

  1. USAWKF authorizes its members to compete as athletes or serve as judges in any SU 2017 Wushu related event in both the selection process, as necessary, and at the event itself.
  2. USAWKF will ratify the selected team as the US delegation for the SU 2017 event with the IWUF if necessary.
  3. The USAWKF will verify information as necessary for the team selection process. Specifically the following 3 points:
    • USAWKF member Athletes past performance records. The selection criteria listed above will be based on USAWKF data.
    • USAWKF judges certification. For the team trials, USAWKF will verify the credentials of the judges upon request.
    • IWUF rules. USAWKF will make sure that UCMAP uses the Correct version of IWUF regulations for the team trials.

Taolu Events

Taolu Team Trial

UCMAP & NCWAA will host the Taolu Team Trial to be held concurrently with the 25" Annual U.C. Berkeley Chinese Martial Art Tournament on March 25, 2017 in Berkeley, CA. The Team Trial will have the same 8 events as mentioned in the Purpose Taolu section. UCMAP bears the technical responsibility for the execution of the team trials and all related events. NCWAA bears the financial responsibility as UCMAP's fiduciary agent for of the team trials and all related events. USAWKF sanctions the event and serves in an advisory capacity. The Team Trials will be conducted by USAWKF and IWUF trained judges and will be overseen by USAKWF officials to ensure all aspects of the team trial is compliant with IWUF regulations.

Team Trial Selection Methodology: The Changquan scores will be multiplied by 2 so the winning score for all events will be out of 20.00. Regardless of which event the Team Trial participants compete in, the highest 2 scores for Men and the highest 2 scores for Women who have come in first place in one of the eight events will make the Summer Universiade 2017 Team US Wushu delegation. Tie Breakers

  1. In the event of a tie score, the athlete with the higher placements in their individual events will be deemed the winner of the tiebreaker.
  2. If a tie still exists, the athlete with the highest cumulative B score of both their qualifying events will be deemed the winner of the tie breaker.
  3. If a tie still exists, the athlete with the highest B individual event score will be deemed the winner of the tiebreaker.
  4. If a tie still exists, the athlete with higher number of successfully completed B difficulty movements in both of their qualifying events will be deemed the winner of the tiebreaker.
  5. For a tie in Changquan (Longfist), if a tie still exists, the athletes with the tie will be asked to perform and be scored on the 3rd Compulsory Longfist Form and the athlete with the highest score will be deemed the winner of the tiebreaker.
  6. If a tie still exists, the Judging Committee will determine the winner of the tiebreaker.

Judging Committee

There will be a Taolu Judging Committee that will be comprised of a UCMAP & USAKWF representative which will ratify the results of the Team Trial and announce the Team.

The Judging Committee will secure the commitments of the winning athletes to attend prior to the announcement of the team. The winning athletes must commit to attend SU2017 prior to be announced as a team member. If the winning Team Trial athlete opts not to attend SU2017, the next highest scoring Team Trial athlete will be asked.

The decisions of the Judging Committee will be final.

Sanda Events

Sanda Team Trial UCMAP & NCWAA will host the Sanda Team Trial in April 8, 2017 at United Martial Arts in Lubbock, TX,

The Team Trial will have the following 6 weight classes:

Men: 1. 52 kg 2. 60kg 3. 70kg 4. 80kg

Women: 1. 52 kg 2. 60kg

Selection Methodology: The fighters who attend the Sanda Team Trial will fight in matches based upon their weight class. In the event there is not a fighter available in that weight class, sparring sessions will be conducted with fighters of different weight classes so the judges may ascertain the fighters skill levels.

All fighters without international fight experience must fight at the Sanda Team Trial either in a match or in a Sparring Session to be considered for the Team.

Based on the results of the matches and sparring sessions at team trial and previous fight record, the team will be selected at the conclusion of the Team Trial by the Sanda Judging Committee.
